We are currently helping in advertising Winston and any enquiries we get will be directed to the RSPCA at the kennels where he resides.
From the RSPCA kennels:
“Winston’s story is that one of the RSPCA inspectors called to say could we take in a Pointer as the owner was going into prison and he had nowhere for him to go. We got very limited history on him, the owner just said he needed a working home. He had lived with children aged 6 and 11 and had lived with a cat. They said he was jumpy and excitable and they had got him from a kennels in Essex and he was now 13mth old. That is all we have been given, which is usual for us to get barely any information sadly.
With us we have found that he is friendly and very lively, he didn’t even know his name, he didn’t sit or give eye contact. He has a very short attention span and gets easily distracted. We have started with some clicker training with him, but again after a couple of minutes he gets distracted. He is friendly with dogs, and can just be full on with them. He is friendly with people he meets, he is just not like really affectionate, he likes sniffing and exploring. Happy to interact with feeding enrichment, but not into toys, will chase but not pick up yet. In our little home room he will zoom around and doesn’t settle, but this is over a very short period of time they are in there. Fine but wriggly to health check and groom. Little worried by the car so had to be lifted in but came out on his own. Recall needs work. Can be a bit hesitant about going back to his kennel and can do some spinning in the kennel, but is calmer then he was.
We feel he needs an experienced home with Pointer experience and needs an active/working home. Could live with another dog depending on introductions and a dog that could cope with him. Someone based at home initially with plenty of time and patience. Could live with older teenagers.”
