On Saturday 6th July 55 humans, 54 Pointers and 3 honorary Pointers braved the weather for our annual Funday at Apley Estate dog park in Shifnal, Shropshire. It was wonderful to see all the dogs running around having lots of fun, despite the rain.
Our renowned dog show was kindly judged by Nicky Hartley and started off with the Best Veteran class which was won by Jueves, one of our Spanish rescues (adopted by Nicky and Clive Disdel). Some of our other classes included Best UK Bred Pointer which was won by Dougie (adopted by the Dove family), and Fabulous Fella which was won by Max (adopted by Jane Sharman).

Our Dog with the Waggiest Tail class was without a doubt the funniest parade, with Scooby from Turkey standing out from the second he got in the ring with his adopter, Shelley Kemp.

After a bit more rain the sun finally came out for a bit, just in time for Musical Sit. After a few technical hitches Pointers were tested to the tune Who Let the Dogs Out, and Agiax from Greece was the most super player sitting 1st every time, his ‘trainer’ Rachael Goodwin is to be praised for her talents! The hardest decision for Nicky was Best Rescue Pointer with over 25 dogs in the ring walking around in the pouring rain, but little Olive from Greece (also adopted by Rachael) stood out and was a worthy winner.

Another of our big winners on the day was two-year old Isla who won Best In Show, Best Bitch and runner up in our UK Bred class. Congratulations to all, although every one of our Pointers in attendance were winners!

As well as all the dog show fun we also held our Grand Raffle with prizes including a John Lewis voucher, three-night break in the Lake District, a pet portrait, wine and gin glasses, a M&S voucher, and a fancy bottle of wine.
We raised nearly £1,000 which wouldn’t have been possible without our raffle prize donators and all our sponsors – LickiMat, Sporting Saint, Pawfit trackers, WCF Pet & Equestrian, Rufflewear UK and Leucillin skincare.
We are also very grateful to the Apley Estate management for letting us use their dog park at short notice – it was really wonderful surroundings and nothing was too much trouble for them.
Finally, thank you to all the Pointers In Need team and all our loyal supporters who come every year. It was yet again another very successful event, here’s to next year’s being even better and preferably with no rain!
