It was autumn 2022, and a tiny, tiny puppy was rescued in Greece. Only about 5 weeks old, starving and fighting for life.
But the ‘Pointer Angels’ were smiling on him that day! In November 2022 he went to a special Foster Mum: Claire, Pointers In Need CEO.
Named Lent by his rescuers, he stayed with Claire, cared for, fed and loved, for many weeks. And in February 2023, the next stage in his life began. Claire had a friend, Anaelle, who lived near Athens and takes up the story.
“I always say that Lent was put on this earth as a vehicle for love — to carry love to people.
“It was February 2023 when I was asked if I could foster a Pointer puppy. He had been rescued about 3 Months before and described as “all bones” and “full of ticks.” I said yes without hesitation, planning to look after him for three weeks.
“When he arrived, Lent was running everywhere – excited, full of life, joyful. He was so tiny he fitted entirely in my hand. I fell in love with this brave little man instantly.
“The fostering was easy. My flatmate taught him to sit and to wait for a signal before eating. He was nothing but love. At night, he’d play with my braids while I read. He and our other dog became the best of friends.
“When the time came to let him go, I was devastated. We brought him to see the sea on his last morning, and then he went off with his next foster family.
“After he left, I created an account in his name, hoping to one day find another puppy like him – one I could keep forever. At the time, I was freelancing and traveling often, so it wasn’t the right moment. For about a week, I felt an overwhelming sadness and missed him terribly.
Then, while I was in London, I got a message from Claire asking if I’d like to be his forever family. I burst into tears of joy and said yes immediately.
“ I rearranged my life so he could have the space he needed to be happy and fulfilled. It’s been three years now, and I can say with complete confidence that Lent was the best decision of my life. Not a day goes by that he doesn’t fill me with joy. He is the sweetest, cuddliest, little man. I’m forever grateful to Claire, Suzanne, Dagmar, Domo, Sofia, and everyone else who helped make this possible.”
