When Claire, Pointers In Need CEO, told ‘the team’ about Sissy she prefaced her remarks with ‘Sorry. But I couldn’t say no, she’s the sweetest girl’
It was probably one of those times when she had declared a moratorium on taking any more dogs under our, already crowded, wing (the resolve usually lasts a day or two!).
Sissy was in a municipal pound – where dogs are routinely taken when found wandering, or handed in as unwanted. A handful of dedicated staff and volunteers do their utmost , with very limited resources, for sometimes hundreds of poor waifs and strays.

Thus Sissy came to Pointers In Need.
Meanwhile, in the UK, a lovely lady and her son, and a rescue spaniel called named Nancy, had decided to add a rescue Pointer to their household …..
So Sissy became Luna. And her best life began …..
“Luna is a gorgeous orange and white English Pointer girl from Greece, who came into our lives on the 20th July 2025, after the loss of my dear 11 and a half year old English PointerX boy, Sam. He was the first English Pointer that I had rescued and owned, he had been such an amazing dog so I knew that I wanted to rescue a Pointer again. Two years ago I also rescued a Working Cocker Spaniel who we called Nancy, so it was imperative that our new pal got on with her.
“When I started my search for our new companion I had never heard of Pointers In Need, but once I made contact with Di, I soon realised what a fantastic and amazing organisation they are.
“Once I passed my home visit, we discussed what dogs were available for rehoming, Luna came up in conversation which sparked my interest. Di then sent me some photos of her and it was love at first sight: her freckles are so cute.
“Luna went into foster with a fantastic Foster Mum, Hilary, and we, and Nancy, quickly made arrangements to visit her. We saw her and all loved her.
“She settled really quickly, only 2 little ‘accidents’ on the landing! I set up a quiet area for her but she didn’t use it once, she instantly made herself comfy on the sofas! She slotted into our routine and lives effortlessly beside us and is a joy to be with. First thing in the morning we always have our coffee and cuddles, where Nancy and Luna will see who can get the closest to lie all over me – it’s usually a tie!
“She will run around her garden, surveying various areas with her nose to the ground and with her tail constantly wagging. Once the garden check is done, day or night, she taps on the bifold door to let us know she wants to come back in.
“There’s nothing I love more than a good dog walk with friends and end up in a country pub for a bite to eat and drink. On Luna’s first trip to the pub she passed with flying colours, other customers came up to me to comment on how well behaved the dogs were and how beautiful they are – a very proud Dog Mum moment!
“We are now 5 months down the line and Luna is a beautiful, goofy, loving, girl. She loves a snooze. She’s a calm girl until she goes outside, that’s when her ‘little tinker’ side comes out. She has that classic Pointer trait of ‘selective hearing’ – if I don’t look at my Mum, I can’t see her, so obviously she can’t see me, so I can run off to wherever I want to go! We walk in my local woods daily and Luna was doing so well off lead and was coming back when called. But I think now she has got comfortable in her new life and has decided to push the boundaries. She comes back when she wants to – not when I call her. She has hit her adolescent years!!!
“Luna is now back on lead, and we are going back to basics. I enlisted the help of a trainer – who reminded me of some of the things I should focus on with Luna, and she is now back on the straight and narrow.
“Nothing is known about Luna’s back story, but wherever she has been before, coming to us hasn’t stopped her becoming an amazing dog. You never have a dull day with Luna. She is challenging some days, but spending the last 5 months or so with the highs and lows have been a wonderful journey. I am looking forward to continuing it with both of my beautiful dogs Luna and Nancy.
“I want to finish off by saying a big thank you to Claire and all the team involved in Pointers In Need. You do such a committed, amazing and wonderful thing by rehoming these beautiful dogs. Thank you for bringing Luna to us.”
