A few months ago Pointers In Need had three gorgeous little girl Pointers needing loving, forever homes.
In Spain, Maisy, Daisy and Molly were inseparable sisters and were rescued along with their mum, Dotty (who was expecting yet more puppies!). Their Foster Mum in Spain decided to keep Dotty, and Pointers In Need rehomed one of her new puppies.
We knew we had to find very special homes for the three girls. Rebekah, who had recently sadly lost her beloved GSP Amber, saw Maisie’s picture ………….

“10 weeks ago, Maisie arrived in my life from Spain, and I can honestly say she has changed it completely.
“After losing my beloved dog Amber (German Shorthair Pointer) to cancer at the young age of 7, I wasn’t sure I would ever feel that special bond again. I had always wanted a Pointer, and when I saw Maisie’s beautiful amber eyes, I immediately fell in love. They reminded me so much of Amber that I knew I had to find out more about her.
“Maisie was estimated to be around two to three years old when I adopted her. Like many rescue dogs, she arrived with some uncertainty and nervousness. She was clearly anxious about her new surroundings, but despite her fears she still wanted affection and reassurance. It was obvious that underneath it all was a loving dog who just needed time to feel safe.
One of the biggest challenges initially was that Maisie showed signs of fear aggression towards other dogs. Having come from the streets of Spain, I believe much of this stemmed from fear and self-preservation. Street dogs often have to look after themselves and defend their space, and I think Maisie had learned that other dogs could be a threat. There may also have been an element of her trying to protect me as we were beginning to form our bond.
“As a first-time rescue dog owner, I was naturally concerned and wanted to make sure I handled the situation correctly. I reached out to the team at Pointers in Need, who were fantastic. They reassured me and gave me some simple but effective advice: stay calm, gently reassure Maisie and keep her close by my side so she felt safe and supported.
“The results were incredible. Within just three or four days, her fear-based reactions started to disappear. As her confidence grew, she began to realise that she no longer needed to be afraid. Nearly 3 months later, she has lots of doggy friends in the village and loves meeting and playing with other dogs. Watching that transformation and seeing her enjoy canine company has been one of the most rewarding parts of our journey together.
These days, Maisie is a completely different dog. She is confident, happy and full of personality. Every day starts or ends with zoomies around the back garden, racing around at full speed with pure joy. She definitely has a sassy side too, and one of her favourite hobbies is stealing and hiding my socks! She keeps me laughing every day and brings so much happiness to my home.
“Maisie has become a huge part of my daily life, including my at-home nail tech business. My clients absolutely adore her and always ask after her. She loves greeting visitors and has become quite the little salon mascot. It’s wonderful to see how much affection people have for her and how she happily soaks up all the attention.
“What has touched me most is the trust she has placed in me. No matter what situation she finds herself in, as long as I’m by her side she knows everything will be alright. Seeing that trust develop between us has been incredibly special.
“Maisie has filled my life with a love that I genuinely thought I would never feel again. She isn’t a replacement for Amber, who will always hold a special place in my heart, but she has created her own place there too.
Before adopting Maisie, I had never rescued a dog before, hadn’t even contemplated it and was in fact puppy route all the way. Looking back now, I would encourage anyone considering rescue to go for it. It is one of the most rewarding things I have ever done. Rescue dogs have so much love to give, and watching them blossom into confident, happy companions is an experience like no other.
“Thank you, Pointers in Need, for bringing Maisie into my life. I can’t imagine life without her.”
