Floki and Dylan Happy Ever After

From Spain and Cyprus,  via Claire at Pointers In Need and Debs, a fabulous Foster mum, Floki and Dylan found their Happy Ever After in the Lake District.

Two wonderful dogs living their very best lives.

“In 2017 Wayne and I lost our two  Pointers.  Rio and Keita – both beautiful dogs bred from show lines. They were sisters, but from different litters.

By the next year, we were looking at puppies, but Floki’s little face caught my attention on the Pointers In Need Facebook page.  A face full of personality. We knew instantly that we had to have her. I vividly remember driving 600 miles to collect her – through the ‘Beast from the East’,  a storm in the February which brought very low temperatures and heavy snow.

Floki, a black and white Pointer from Spain, was about a year old when we got her.
Then, as we would bicker about who would hold the dog, we decided to fill our home with another Pointer. Along came Dylan, a beautiful Orange and White from Cyprus. We had actually seen a different dog posted by Pointers In Need, who we spoke to Claire about. But she directed us to Dylan and we fell for him straight away – the biggest goof we would ever meet.

Dylan was about 18 months old and in quite a bad way. He had no muscle on his back legs. He couldn’t even jump on the sofa at first. We got Floki in the March and then Dylan in the May. I spoke with Claire right through the process for both of them.

We drove the same 600 mile round trip to collect Dylan. I do believe it was Harry and Megan’s royal wedding that day. Both dogs  had been to the same foster home. Debs, their Foster Mum, was incredible – updating us, sharing pictures – giving the best loving start to life in the UK. Debs is a super human.

The whole process of adoption was smooth and any questions we had were answered. We had no concerns whatsoever. I was sure Claire would be fed up with us, but she never showed it. We will always be truly grateful.

Floki and Dylan fitted in together straight away, like they had always had each other.
We would walk the many fells and show them what it was to be a dog with a family.

Floki is the cheeky, playful, funny one, with the biggest toy basket, and Dylan just loves his sofa and to give his heavy cuddles. Both huge characters. They even came fell running, bizarrely they run in a straighter line than they walk.

They are guaranteed to make people smile when we are out on walks. Dylan has a prance rather than a walk.  So many people want to say hello, though both of them are completely unimpressed by people out of their circle.  But that also makes people smile (and us feel a bit special!).

When Covid hit, we really had the best time at home. The walks were quiet. Wayne was working from home, and Floki and Dylan soon became fully fledged members on Wayne’s Teams meetings. From Japan to Brazil, America, and beyond, colleagues would all request the Pointers joined in!

In January 2023, Wayne suddenly passed away. These two dogs really saved me and continue to do so every day. They were his pride and joy: came above me in the pecking order! They just know when we are sad and act accordingly. It blows my mind.

We are figuring out life as a three, starting back on adventures in our campervan. Even finding a secure pitch with big high fences. Pure bliss to see them just sniffing around and playing.

They come everywhere with me now, and have become familiar models on my Work’s Facebook page (WCF Pet and Equestrian).

Though they cannot go off lead, I hire a secure field for them to run free. As much as we walk the fells and forests, I love to see their ‘running faces’!”
