Not a typical story of Rescue – Sammie’s Story:

A beautiful liver-and-white Pointer about a year old, Sammie’s journey has been nothing short of remarkable. Rescued from the streets of Greece, she was living in a Shelter. Shockingly, her story took a frightening turn when she was stolen from the Shelter. After a desperate search and the kindness of a stranger, she was miraculously recovered from a deserted warehouse.

After a three-day overland journey to the UK she arrived in her Foster home. And then on to her forever home in Wiltshire, with Emily and Will. She was finally ready to start a new chapter and with a new name: Poppy.

Emily tells their story –

“Like all the other lucky rescuers who have been fortunate enough to find Pointers In Need, we believe we have hit the jackpot with our new ‘dog-daughter’ – Poppy aka Sammie (aka Floppy Dog!).

“When we first saw Sammie on a video sent to us, we knew she was absolutely ‘the one’. She was full of energy: jumping on and off the sofa, naughty, and with a fantastic cheeky face. We only hoped Sammie would come to love us as much as we already loved her.

“Our first night together in her new forever home was everything we could have hoped for. She was full of love, and very happy to explore her new surroundings. She quickly found her new favourite toy, ‘Mr. Pheasant’, which was waiting for her at home. She didn’t hesitate in jumping into our bed that night for a cuddle and as all our pointers do, proceeded to take up the whole bed!!

“We couldn’t believe how much we already loved her and how comfortable she was after such a short time.

“Until the worst day and night came. We were naive and had let our guard down too early. In a split second she managed to escape in front of us. The nightmare all families have, had unfortunately come true for us.

“With the help of Pointers In Need, her fantastic previous Foster Mum, Lara, and a brilliant local ‘missing dogs’ charity, we endlessly searched the vast plains we live on.

“Finally a miracle occurred – after hours of searching she was found, safe and sound in a driveway not far from our house. She had been trying to make her way home!

“We have not stopped cuddling her, nearly three months on. We learn new things every day about our fantastically funny, very intelligent, girl, who was part of our family before we even met her.

“Poppy loves to spend time with our family Pointers In Need Pointer (known previously as Camelot’s). When they meet, they love to conspire and cause lots of mischief which we love to see – 3.00 am zoomies in the hallway seem to be the favourite when Camalita visits – often resulting in Dog-Dad’s shoes being their victims!

“Poppy has been loving her walks, being topped only by hours sunbathing in the garden. Like all our Pointers, she likes nothing better than lying on top of you on the sofa for cuddles, preventing functional breathing for her humans!

“We are so happy to see she is considering the house her own now, and feels comfortable enough to explore by herself. Her new hideaway is under the covers of our bed. Her Christmas present this year will be a cave bed!

“As the years go on, we hope she will continue growing in personality and know that she has a family that absolutely love her to bits!!

“Thank you to her Fosterer, Lara, who gave her a fantastic home and a brilliant start to life in England, Pointers In Need for their continued support and all others who have met and helped our fantastic Poppy at the start of her journey.”
