Our beautiful Black and White Pointer, Jazz, arrived from Greece at 5 am on 20 August 2024. She was shaking when she came off TaxiPet (transport company). Stress or the chilly British morning after sunny Greece? We didn’t know. She’s a young girl, between one and two years old.
We were moving house on the 22nd and were worried about how she would cope with the upheaval. Once in the new house we took it slowly and let her do her own thing.
After a couple of weeks we started taking her out for walks: short at first, then gradually increasing in length. At first she would jump out of her skin at any sudden noise, like a car going over a manhole cover, or a car driver using his horn. She was extremely nervous with big vehicles, especially buses. We kept at it, thinking she will get used to the noises and her new surroundings, and after several weeks she absolutely did.
She has a fetish for shoes! If you leave them lying about she will grab one and race up to her ‘safe place’ (which is our double bed!) and demolish it. She will even have a nibble at my slippers while I’ve got them on my feet. We kept asking ourselves when we were going to learn and not leave things lying around. Finally we got the idea and now make sure there’s nothing on the floor.
We came home one day and found she had opened the divan draw on our bed, pulled Jayne’s dressing gown out, and chewed a near perfect circle out of it.
This is one clever dog. She knows our car. When we’re heading back to it after a long walk, she knows exactly which one is ours.
Jazz absolutely loves to play with other dogs and loves a good toy fight with me. She is such a gentle sweet girl. She is very quiet and never barks. She is brilliant on the lead and walks beautifully. Her walk is hard to describe – but it’s very graceful. She still has her tail between her legs at certain times, but this is getting less and less as time goes by.
She spent a week in kennels a few weeks ago and was absolutely brilliant. They all fell in love with her.
Everyone who meets Jazz says how beautiful she is and asks how old she is, is she a rescue etc etc. At which point we tell them how lucky we are to have stumbled across Pointers in Need on the internet and how we ended up with our beautiful Jazz.
